The patient was a 55-year-old woman whose complaint was a mass in the left breast. An elastic, firm mass, 3.2 x 2.8 cm in size, was palpable in the breast regions B to D. A mammographic examination of the breast revealed a irregular, microlobulated, high-density mass, and breast ultrasonography also showed an irregularly shaped hypoechoic mass. As breast cancer was suspected, fine-needle aspiration cytology was performed, but it did not provide a definite diagnosis. An excisional biopsy disclosed a sarcomatoid structure composed of polymorphic fusiform cells and some epithelial cancer cells ; hence a diagnosis of spindle cell carcinoma was made. As the resection stump was positive, mastectomy and axillary lymphadenectomy were further performed. A modest intraductal carcinoma (intraductal spread) was noted in the resected tissue specimen. There was no evidence of lymph node metastases, and the tumor tissue was negative for estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PgR), and positive for p53 immunostaining. The patient received adjuvant therapy postoperatively.}, pages = {477--480}, title = {乳腺紡錘細胞癌の1例}, volume = {76}, year = {2006} }
