And we measured the serum concentrations of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) using the chemiluminescence-ELISA (CL-ELISA) method, which has a 100~1,000 times higher sensitivity than the conventional ELISA method. A correlation between aging and serum IL-6 and TNF-α levels wasn't observed in both male and female healthy subjects. Pacifici et al reported overproduction of bone resorbing cytokines, such as IL-1 by peripheral blood monocytes of post-menopausal osteoporosis patients, but in the present study, we did not observe an elevation of serum IL-6 and TNF-α levels in osteoporosis patients in comparison to healthy subjects. Since wide variation exists in the serum cytokine values among individuals because of the effects of factors, such as smoking, allergies, other diseases and aging on cytokines throughout the body, and the overproduction of bone-resorbing cytokines from peripheral monocytes is not reflected in the serum cytokine levels. In addition, a trend for a decrease in the ultrasound values with aging was observed from the results of ultrasound measurement. Furthermore, a correlation between velocity of sound (VOS) and broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA) was observed in both male and female healthy subjects and a significant difference in the VOS and BUA values was found between the osteoporosis and healthy subjects. These findings point to the usefulness of ultrasound measurement for osteoporosis.}, pages = {239--248}, title = {高感度Chemiluminescence-ELISA法を用いた骨粗鬆症における血中Interleukin-6, Tumor Necrosis Factor-αの検討}, volume = {71}, year = {2001} }
